Mine has said 5 hours then jumped to 7 hours after I had been using it for awhile. Apparently, it's been a thing with MacBooks for some time. I haven't yet had trouble getting it to drain quickly. I usually need all day use.

Battery technology is always improving. If they stayed with bigger batteries that have more capacity then they'd be able to do way more than 10 hours. Thin is great until a certain point. And a laptop doesn't need to weigh as little as possible either. They're not being carried around by toddlers.

It's against the law to have more than 99watt hours of battery in the US.

Mess

The Macbooks just get worse each year. I'm happy with my 2013 Retina although the battery is a mess.

I bet Trump will repeal that law. It's against the consumer and it can't be divided by two. 100 is a nice and easy number to divide by 2. That's 50watt hours, over two days of watts. Divide that by two and you have over one day of watts.

I think you would be allowed to own one, but there is a transport safety rule that says you can't carry a larger battery on an aircraft, so in practice, no-one is going to make a laptop that you can't take on a business trip.

OT - the battery meter hours remaining is still useful even if not 100% accurate.
