I think Arca is releasing next year too. The mixtape was such a background kind of thing.
I Just Wanna Dance is a popular one from what i've witnessed.
It may not have a 2 on, but I still enjoyed it.

50. The Northern Lights - Alchemy




Alchemy is a neat & hidden synthpop/retrowave record that's reminiscent of early M83. I didn't spend much time with it but with a first listen it impressed me enough. It's atmospheric and crisp in sound and is pretty consistent too.

49. The Weeknd - Starboy




I really wanted to enjoy Starboy more than I did but I realized later on how much songs could've been left off. Due to increased reliance on streaming, i'm guessing more of these popular albums suddenly aim to have 16-18+ tracks, and with that in mind filler is almost inevitable. These artists need to realize that sometimes less is more. His best project was only 9 tracks long. I still think Starboy had the perfect lead single, but some other songs that followed it initially left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't mind him progressively changing his sound but if only it had the exact charm as the past for me. Starboy overall was still enjoyable. The samples and obvious influences from the past pop/r&b prodigies are around and it works for him in a way. Perhaps cut the album from 18 to 12-13 it would've been even better.

48. Chairlift - Moth




First off, sad to see that they're (technically) over. Secondly Moth is a decent indie-pop record that's catchier than anything they've done before. Out of the ten tracks it has i'll say about 5-7 of them are very solid while the rest are there to provide some minor support. I think Ottawa ruined a potential streak and the closing track could've been better but other than that, this album is pretty consistent and fun at times.

47. The Field - The Follower




The Follower is dark, hypnotic, & engaging. It's repetitious in a way that allows itself to play through your head while focusing on other things. I mainly use it for background music for when I have to assignments or other things and it's effective on that goal. All the repeated loops, whispers, & textures are ear-pleasing and it invites listeners to join The Field's world of techno.

46. Aesop Rock - The Impossible Kid




I feel The Impossible Kid was slept on a bit and possibly due to it being released the same day as Views. But between those two, Aesop won in quality. Throughout the album he details his own personal life experiences. One of the highlights of this album is production value, which he cleverly takes advantage of depending on which mood the song is in. Aesop is pretty talented when it comes to producing and verbal word play with syllables. He has one of the more niche vocal style rapping too, which sets him apart. A definite veteran among the underground crew.
