the media runs around praising Beyoncé's music for reflecting the strength of a black woman in America, despite most of Lemonade being written by white men...MTV has made her the face of their "lets demonize white people for being white" narrative (their new year resolutions for white men made sure to praise her), and that's why she was the star of the 2016 VMA ceremony.

there isn't really racism in the music industry, since Beyoncé and Rihanna ruled in 2016, and Beyoncé, Kanye, Rihanna, and Drake are the most nominated at the 2016 Grammys...it's just elitism.

Why wouldn't fans and the media bring attention to black artists excelling in an industry where that rarely happens? Mediocre white artists are praised all the time and basically run the industry as far as success goes, so yes it is necessary to bring attention to black artists doing well, especially if those black artists aren't mediocre.

ATRL is guilty of this, y'all will praise a blonde white girl who can barely hold a note and execute an 8 count but will gallop at the opportunity to call a black artist overrated when they rightfully get praise for the fact that can actually sing and dance excellently.

Minorities succeeding in an industry where they are under represented will always receive a tonne of praise. It will happen when Asian artists start dominating, it will happen when LGBT artists start dominating.

Also mess at not wanting to be classified as a "black" anything when you being black will automatically get you thrown into the "urban" categories. Look at how many black artists who make EDM music still get thrown into the R&B and urban categories at award shows.
