It surpassed a lot of people's expectations This album is a completely new sound for her, and not very Poppy or trendy at all. They've been going for a completely different approach with this album release plan as well. All things considered, it has held up rather nicely.
Their success isn't getting compared. Most people realize that Joanne was way bigger than Glory.
The argument that some people use is that Britney has a longer career and different standards should be used for her, meaning that they acknowledge that she's not on the same level of success as Gaga in 2016.

You cannot seriously call Joanne a flop at this time and age.
The album has been selling really well for 7 weeks without radio or spotify and dont y' all suddenly act as if radio and streaming aren't big hit factors. It is selling well. No one said that it is a bockbuster, but definitely not a flop.
Joanne is doing well given the circumstances, but definitely not a big album for Lady Gaga standards.
Joanne is doing meh. Let's see what happens after the Super Bowl. If she manages to have a successful tour and go over 1M WW in THIS saled climate, then it's not a flop considering Lemonade is the most successful album this year and it's somewhere around 2.something WW.
Glory is a flop. The album charted for like a month or so and died.

In what world was Joanne not the most promoted era of 2016? I didn't include non-televised performances.
The biggest reward of this is that [redacted] won't be compared to whatever ~contemporary~ star headlines the halftime show a decade from now because she'll just be that forgotten to everyone else/obscure to the youth.
