This is the typical tumblr approach to solving race problems in the US. The program of the course doesn't sound that bad to me (but then again, it seems like they have the typical rhetoric of white people being born evil & racist and remaining evil & racist no matter what we do, like why to even try at this point?

) but the title of the course is literally fishing to make people mad. Instead of encouraging people to get educated and change their approach towards minorities, they are making them mad and even more resentful. Like for whom was this course made because POC know this topic from the autopsy...

Imagine trying to be taken seriously in an application/interview for a job (like a really good one with a good career path, not a Buzzfeed/MTV "journalist"), and having to say you actually took this course.

No doubt it could be an informative class. Still, I think the title needs an adjustment. Even if it was a little more inviting to the people that need to take such a class, it would be helpful. As of now, it immediately stirs up anger and come off a little eh. Like that MTV White People Resolutions. Or buzzfeeds white people anything videos. Its fun/cute and all for those of us on the other side, but is it really helping an issue be fixed?

Minorities already know about this and more, so why not try and do things in a way thats more inviting of people that actually need to take a class like this? People in the middle-ground maybe. It shouldn't be that way, but in this current climate it is. The only thing many are going to talk about in relation to this course is the title now, instead of what it really has to offer. Just my observations so far.

As a white person, it is truly embarrassing how many people on this forum--who are probably all LGBTQ--are so adamantly against this and with so little understanding on what it's actually teaching. Being taught from an academic perspective (this professor has a PhD in African American Studies from Northwestern), a course like this is incredibly forward thinking and helpful for a country with such deep, untouched race relation issues as the US. The course title is a mess but with a more conservative title, it probably would've never gotten news coverage, which has just further exemplified our race issues. Just one of the beauties of our college system: the encouragement and requirement to take electives in topics that interest you.
