battery problems only exist in the touch models.

non touch has a stronger battery & a CPU that consumes lesser power

Honestly i'm in your same boat but I would much rather spend the money on future proofing. I'd just wait a little longer for them to fix the battery issues - which should be soon.

I would personally get a used 2013/2014 model. Check out Swappa. The 2015 model has issues with its dGPU to the point where Apple doesn't even sell it with a dGPU anymore. If you want the new MBP, wait until its next refresh cycle when prices will likely drop and refinements will be made.

Edit: if you're getting a 13" then you're fine with the 2015 model.

Air is good for casual use. I've had mine for about two years & haven't had an issue with it. Good for web surfing, school, work, and I even use Photoshop on it pretty fluidly.
