Margaret comes off HORRIFICALLY in this situation because she's completely misrepresented what happened here. I was so shocked with Tilda until I read that email exchange. Margaret has completely lied about what happened and has hindered her cause unnecessarily, making it look like open conversations with those who are wanting to understand more are going to be labelled as "weird" and be misrepresented.

In the second email she sent, it came off to me that she was just talking
at Margaret explaining all the reasons she believes the movie is OK from a diversity standpoint and that she's a good white person who cares about diversity and doesn't deserve vilification. Like she was just trying to absolve herself of the guilt rather than truly empathizing with the motivation behind the outrage.

so far I have attempted to correct the notion that I accepted an offer to play an Asian.. (!!) the most significant and damaging misunderstanding out there, it seems

This part here specifically - she
did accept to play an Asian role. It is not a misunderstanding. The writers altering the source material so that the Ancient One would no longer be Asian but instead someone of Celtic origin is exactly what whitewashing is. Notwithstanding the efforts the creators made to ameliorate the situation, this is how it was perceived by many Asian people.
