Same reason women are notoriously catty with other women, they see each other as competition biologically (as in, not necessarily a conscious thought) and so their instincts are to try to find a way up on the others fighting for attention from a mate. In gay men, it's amplified further by competing with your own sex for the attention of that same sex. So with every single mating candidate also being your competition, it brings out a lot of vicious hormonal reactions.

Biologically we are not women, in those given scenarios men don't release the same hormones as women, if that were the case, then gay men would be more "masculine"
