It's not that bad! I actually thought it would do better than it has done, it was a huge hit in America. I can't stand country music, but I think this song is ok.

The key word being 'ok', if we're playing non-homegrown music then shouldn't it be above average? We should do what they do in France and play mostly our own music, that way only the really good stuff can make it over here. Hey Soul Sister bothers me in that respect too

I hate Hey Soul Sister... I agree that British music should be given greater priority here, but I've followed the charts for years and as a whole British music is going form strength from strength. IMO the British resurgence began with Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse in 2006, we've had so many strong waves of talent since then. It's still easier for American Artists to be successful though, because they have so much more money behind them. What bothers me most at the moment is the lack of success that both Ellie Goulding and Marina and the Diamonds are having, I don't understand why their music is not being appreciated.

Ellie's and Marina's albums both did well I think Lights was #1 and Family Jewels #2 but, yeah neither have exactly become phenomenons. Probably because they're a bit different, Marina has a unique voice that a lot of people won't like, I actually used to dislike it. And Ellie does indie, pop, folk and electronic at the same time.

Lights was number 1, but the week after it debuted there it fell to number 16. That's the second biggest drop from number one of all time. Guns and Horses hasn't taken off at all yet, which isn't a good sign seeing as we are so close to its official release. TFJ debuted at number 5, but sales thus far have not been great. Hopefully with time they'll have more success, I'm surprised the BBC has not been more supportive of them.

The BBC are too busy trying to make us care about American rappers who won't ever be particularly successful here, like Drake and Lil Wayne because people act like they're the second coming when in fact their material is barely above average. They should support our own talent which is better at the moment anyway
EDIT:
Radio 1 website says Ellie's been playlisted: Weekend Anthem (as chosen By Matt Edmondson)
Ellie Goulding - Guns and Horses

Yes, they have both Ellie and Marina on the A-List. That's not really a big deal though, there's 19 songs on the playlist, and it just ensures that a song will be played at least 20 times a week, which isn't really that much when you think about it. They need more promotion, I don't think Ellie has been on Jonathon Ross yet so she should be given the opportunity to perform and that will give her some exposure. The BBC sound of polls will lose credibility if the winners do not realise their potential and become successful Artist. Little Boots last year was a disaster.

I think people tend to switch off from them because with Artists that win all these awards before they release anything seem to be overhyped and 'guaranteed' success which I think some people don't like.
And to the person who asked about Daisy, it did ok, got to #13 I think but most of that was down to Chipmunk...

They may be overhyped to an extent, but success is not guaranteed. Little Boots demonstrated that, she had much more hype than Ellie and she flopped terribly. I don't think that the acts featured on this years poll have received exposure to the same degree as we have seen before, perhaps the poll has lost credibility. IMO Florence + The Machine should have won it last year.
