Iran to start WWlll if Trump meddles with its nukes pact
Quote:
Iran is prepared to start World War III if the Trump administration meddles with its nuclear pact, according to a top official from the Mideast country — who tempered his saber-rattling by saying such an outcome is unlikely because the president-elect is, above all else, a businessman.
“Considering Trump’s character and that he measures the cost of everything in dollars, it does not seem likely that he would take strong action against our country,” Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan told a security conference in the capital of Tehran on Sunday.
“Enemies may want to impose a war on us based on false calculations and only taking into consideration their material capabilities,” Dehghan said. “Such a war would mean the destruction of the Zionist regime (Israel) … and will engulf the whole region and could lead to a world war.”
“Among other consequences of the war would be the destruction of the city-states on the southern shore of the Persian Gulf, because they lack popular support,” he continued, referring to the tiny Gulf states of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar.
During the 2016 election, Trump promised to redo the nuclear pact with Iran, calling it a “disastrous” deal.
edit: wait this is NYP lol nvm! they're super untrustworthy outside of celebrity gossip (page six). they're as close as you can get to the national enquirer
Donald Trump's election has led to unease over threats to peace in the region, Iran's defense minister said on Sunday, warning that a war would destroy Israel and the small Gulf Arab states.
Trump's election victory has raised the prospect the United States will pull out of a nuclear pact it signed last year with Iran, which Barack Obama's administration has touted as a way to suspend Tehran's suspected drive to develop atomic weapons.
During his campaign, Trump called the nuclear pact a "disaster" and "the worst deal ever negotiated" and has signaled he will take a harder line on Iran.
This has led to unease among U.S. allies in the Gulf, Iranian Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan was quoted as saying by the semi-official Mehr news agency.
