Amazon workers face losing their jobs if they are off sick for four days, undercover investigation reveals
Amazon has been accused of abuse and exploitation following claims workers are threatened with the sack if they are off sick for more than four days.
The US web retailer is also under fire after it emerged that some staff are living in tents in freezing conditions close to one of its British distribution centres.
MPs are to investigate the allegations, which centre on Amazon’s vast distribution centre warehouse in Dunfermline, Scotland.
The retailer, which last year made more than £6billion of revenues in Britain, has a disciplinary system where staff are given penalty points for taking time off sick.
It has emerged that some staff are camping in woodland near the depot to avoid paying the bus costs. At least three tents have been pitched near the site.
I started to write about how it's never that serious, but let me check myself and just speak on what I know because I've never in my life been in a situation where my potential worst case scenario in losing a job would be worse than camping out in a damn tent in December trying to keep it.
