It depends on the country you live in and how mortgages are calculated. In the US your credit score matters more than the US Passport/citizenship in life.

In the European systems, credit cards are totally optional and it's only a small percentage of population having these.

For what do you want to go in debt for 3, 6 months? A flat screen TV, a car, tuition, payment problems of your current bills,...?

You just have to make the minimum payment and your credit will stay good. But I suggest making the full payment to avoid extra interest.

I use it since I was a young teen, I'm very good at handling it, I never had issues with debt and stuff. Don't spend more than you can pay and you'll be fine

Yep. As long as you use them responsibly-- using only what you intend to immediately pay back or in emergencies-- then they're not that bad.

The European system is much better. They're averse to debt anyway which is why they think long and hard before getting mortgages and many just rent all their lives. The banks and credit card companies don't want you to pay off your balance off in full, they'll offer you an increase when they see you getting closer to your credit limit because they want you to get out of hand with it.

They're handy for online purchases, but stick with 1, 2 cards max.

In a country like Germany, if you don't have 30%, 40% or 50% of the value of a house saved in cash, they don't even bother to offer you a mortgage.

I have one credit card with a balance of 500$ that I pay off a bit every month, but that's about it. I've been blessed in my life to not have to build up too much debt and I hope I can keep it that way as long as possible.
