Madonna infuriates MJ/Prince supporters as backlash begins
Quote:
Billboard honored Madonna as ‘Woman of the Year’ at this year’s ‘Women in Music’ event, but the Queen of Pop is certainly receiving a royal dragging after her controversial acceptance speech.
The Grammy-winning pop icon is quoted as saying:
“Michael is gone. Tupac is gone. Prince is gone. Whitney is gone. Amy Winehouse is gone. David Bowie. But, I’m still standing. I’m one of the lucky ones.”
The statement may have earned an awkward applause at the event, but that wasn’t the case on Twitter.
I get why it's distasteful but I wouldn't send her death threats over it.
What Madonna said was true. Furthermore, Madonna was saying that she's lucky to be alive.
I think people misread the statement (because stans in general tend to be no smarter than a bag of bricks).
Honestly I never thought Madonna was a pretentious person... And I still don't think it
She just wants to say she's one of the only major artist from the 70/80/90's who he's still here
I didn't really perceive it that way. I think she was indirectly saying that her backlash stems from the fact that she's still alive and active, so she's getting the same treatment the people she named were getting while alive.
I mean, she could have worded it a little better, but it's not something I'd get upset over
Madonna keeping people fuming because she's a succesful female artist. Yikes, they cannot handle the tea she was serving back in the 80's about the music industry and they still cannot handle it in 2016. Poor them.
