This past year, Kelly was nominated for 2 Grammys.....Pop Vocal Album for Piece By Piece and Pop Solo Performance for Heartbeat Song. She was asked to perform on the show, but due to being near the end of her pregnancy, Kelly's doctors told her she had to pick between performing there and performing on American Idol. Kelly felt it was important that she appeared on the final season of the show where she got her start, so she picked Idol and turned down the Grammys.
Here's a thread with people's reactions to that:

The performance she gave ended up sending the song from nowhere to the Top 10 of the Hot 100, giving her the highest debut single sales for a female artist in 2016, and the overwhelming reception got her to rush into the studio and record the piano version of the song that she performed. Now, that piano version is nominated for a Grammy, the year after the one she picked Idol over.
If she didn't turn down the Grammys this past year, she wouldn't have been nominated for one now

A true lesson that things always happen for a reason and work out in the end. If there's any song that needed to be remembered and recognized from this album, it's the title track, and now it gets to be recognized. Congrats Kelly
