We are losing the battle against childhood obesity, CDC claims: New data show health campaigns are doing nothing to control U.S. kids' waistlines
CDC chief Dr Tom Frieden admitted the US failed to control childhood obesity
Campaigns to control food poisoning and hospital infections also flopped
However, there were clear success in areas like smoking and teen pregnancy

We are losing the battle against childhood obesity in America, according to Dr Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
New data released on Monday show progress in the U.S. against obesity, food poisoning, and infections spread in hospitals has been uneven and disappointing.
It comes as a major blow to the CDC following dedicated efforts to fight these health threats.
In a frank and damning self-assessment on Monday, the CDC said its campaign to focus on certain health problems was disappointing.
While there have been clear successes in areas like smoking and teen pregnancy, other areas have seen little change or even gotten worse.

Particularly disappointing is the battle against childhood obesity, said Dr. Tom Frieden, the CDC's director.
'The data speak for themselves,' Frieden said of the obesity statistics. 'If you look for the goal we set for ourselves, and look at what happened, we didn't achieve it.'
to be honest, i think the real issue is that people won't do anything on an individual level.
all of the health campaigns in the world can't help if the parents just don't have any motivation. that's not the only reason these things happen, and there are some situations that can't be prevented, but i really think people have to hold themselves accountable in a lot of these situations. the kids can't help the way they're raised, and it's the parents' job to do something about it, but they don't want to actually put in any effort to change their habits or what they expose their children to.
nobody wants to actually take responsibility. they just want to blame the health care system, as if they can just make a magic pill that fixes every weight problem in the world.
It's all this politicizing of a serious health issue. We can't even talk about the issue w/o "fat shaming" someone.
Sure we need to preach acceptance, but really, at some point obesity has to be tackled head on. Parents have to know it's not okay. And children have to reach out to their parents to help them like they would if they had a cut or any other medical condition.
It's because kids don't play outside anymore and haven't in like 20 years. I was never fat as a kid because I was always playing outside and didn't have video games, computer games, a tablet, smart phone, etc. I'm chunky now but I wasn't when I was a child, teen, or young adult. I think parents need to encourage their children to get outside and be kids.
The trash exposing their true colors in this thread, I love it. The trash who think every person who isn't bony and under 100 pounds is obese. How despicable, ignorant, uneducated, and delusional of them

No, only partially
The main reason is the unnatural processed food in the US and Americans' obsession with sugars and processed carbs
There is no cooking and eating culture AT ALL.
USA should take a look at France and their food culture in families and schools
What a shocker that quite a few of these states are in the south and are the poorest... not! These people live in food deserts and do not have access to fresh, quality food. I blame their policymakers for doing absolutely NOTHING to help them. Not to mention that unhealthy, processed food is cheap and easy for busy families to put together during dinner time. Also, quality education is lacking in these areas as well. They're mostly republican states... what does that tell you?
I think people are just unable to grasp basic facts about health and nutrition - like "moderation" is a cute little word people throw around, but moderation means like one sugary treat (and a small one at that) once every few days, one can of soda a day eliminates any exercise or good eating you do. You simply and truly just have to cut out the crap and do real exercise - a little wee walk ain't gonna help.
