Diana Hajiyeva to represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2017



On 5 December on the meeting of Azerbaijani national broadcaster Eurovision committee it was decided that singer Diana Hajiyeva will represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. No further details about the selection as well as her entry have been revealed.

Diana Hajiyeva (better known by her stage name Dihaj) is an Azeri producer, musician and singer-songwriter. Born and raised in Baku, Azerbaijan Diana graduated from the Baku Music Academy with a Bachelor's Degree in Choral Conducting. She began producing experimental music while attending The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London, where she became involved with the local underground music scene. It was shortly after graduation when she launched DIHAJ, a live trio, comprised of two other musicians: Ali on drums and Anar on electric guitar, with Diana herself producing and providing lead vocal. Ethereal guitar sequences, melancholic breathy vocals punctuated by progressive drum patterns create a peculiar sonic texture, which DIHAJ describes as “immersive doom pop”.

Currently Diana works in Baku Jazz Center. She has already competed in the preselection tour for the Eurovision 2011 (and her performance featured participation of Elnur Huseynov) as well as performed as backing vocalist at the previous Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm.

Interesting news from Azerbaijan, we're geting an exceptional vocalist this time around! Hopefully they choose the right song for her - or why not, they let her co-write it, since she can write and produce music. Diana Hacıyeva is her official name in Azerbaijani, by the way.
