A Sunflower’s Dance
Her feet have burns from desert sands
Upon which she built sandcastles
Until she could afford some land
There, she built a home
A humble home with a warmth
To shelter all her children
From the cold of the outside world
That wasn’t ours to own
Immigrant hands, scarred with all they let go
Cultivated a garden
An alchemist, she planted gold
Out of what seemed nothing
A garden grown with sacrifices
That weren't yet obvious to me
Sacrifices I’ll justify
So she can rest easy
Her tired eyes poured out rain
Nurturing the garden
Despite the neighbor’s complaints
We kept on flourishing
Her sights are set beyond the fence
Where glory takes the form
Of a sunflower's dance
And to this day, she reminds us
Petal by petal
They’ll pull you apart
Look to the sunflowers
Avoiding the dark
Petal by petal
They’ll pull you apart
Look to the sunflowers
Avoiding the dark
Beyond the fence
Glory takes the form
Of a sunflower's dance

Let me pull a conatus and do a banal version
"My Mother's Ability to Look at the Bright Side of Things"
My mom crossed the American desert (her feet were hot!)
And she found temporary living situations for a while in America
Until she finally settled in
And she built a home
A poor house but a familial house
That gave us the bare essentials (shelter, warmth, safety etc)
And protected us from the racists outside
America wasn't made for people like us
My mom, as an immigrant, had to sacrifice many things
She built a life, a family
And it came out beautiful (like gold)
Even though she had nothing to begin with
And this life, this family, was built with all the will that she used to sacrifice things
But as a little kid, I didn't know much about that
But now that I'm older, I'm gonna make sure it was all worth it
So she can finally stop worrying and REST, she deserves it
With her blood, sweat, and tears
She raised us right
Despite the ugly neighbors wanting us gone
We are where we are now, alive and well
She focuses on what's beyond her like she used to glance at the neighbors gardens
And the sunflowers would catch our attention cause they are majestic af
And the dance they do around the sun, trying to stay in the light is graceful af
And she instills that belief in us to this day
America wasnt made for us
The oppressors will oppress
The sunflowers are a good example
Of how to avoid the dark
