In this thread i'll change the debate's topic weekly, post your opinion regarding the current topic, the pros and cons, and explain your arguements.
TOPIC OF THE WEEK: Euthanasia - should it be allowed?
Quote:
Euthanasia is the practice of intentionally ending a life in order to relieve pain and suffering.
There are different euthanasia laws in each country. The British House of Lords Select Committee on Medical Ethics defines euthanasia as "a deliberate intervention undertaken with the express intention of ending a life, to relieve intractable suffering". In the Netherlands and Flanders, euthanasia is understood as "termination of life by a doctor at the request of a patient".
FOR:
- Allowing people with a chronic disease or pain to stop their suffering by dying in an unpainful way.
- Humans should have the freedom to choose regarding their own lives.
AGAINST:
- Helping someone to die could be immoral
- Choosing to end your life could cause a lot of pain to your family and friends, knowing it's your fault since you don't know for sure if you'd die eventually.
Another point to discuss: should euthanasia be allowed for anyone, even without any chronic disease? Some people feel a terrible mental pain and prefer dying over living, yet the most unpainful way of death is not allowed for them. Is that democratic?

Yes. It's better than painfully killing yourself (which would happen either way). Might aswell get a fatal injection for a fee
Yes. People with cancer should especially have these options. I watched someone die of cancer.. the slow deteriorating is horrible. Euthanasia is probably cheaper than the cancer drugs tbh
I don't know. I find merits in both sides.....but..
Life is precious. Hope is all that we have. Many a times, it doesn't work out, true, and sometimes...all the pain and suffering results into an unforeseen ending as opposed to expected recovery....
Why I don't voluntarily lean towards euthanasia as a practice, is because it is essentially letting go. The thought of willingly letting go of someone's life troubles me, and while I know they're suffering in ways I cannot imagine, I'd still want to cling on to them and the hope of a recovery as opposed to throwing in the towel.
I'd like to think that the person suffering would want to be given a chance, too. To hang on until he/she cannot.
i want to choose myself when i have enough of living on this earth, i never have chosen to be put on this earth so it should be my decision when i think i'm done here.
