EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures is setting Rodney Rothman to script, with an eye toward directing, a 21 Jump Street spinoff movie where the main cops are female. Neal Moritz is producing. This concept has been floated for a while, along with a separate film that will be a mash-up with 21 Jump Street stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum colliding with the hit Sony franchise Men in Black. That project remains in development.
Um... Why? It's so unnecessary. The originals are fine, and I don't understand why it's so hard to come up with original ideas for films like this that star women.
LOL this has to be a joke. After the Ghostbusters disaster?
Enough with these spin offs Hollywood, taking a movie featuring male protagonists and making a spin-off with females is NOT good. It's like they think that women aren't good enough for lead roles in original movies. Stop putting them in the shadows of male characters, give them their own unique spotlight, not make them clones of existing characters.
And this is without taking into consideration that 21 Jump Street is a movie meant to cater mostly to teenage boys and young men. The SAME main audience as Ghost Busters let's be real.
Has there ever been ONE successful gender swap? Honest question here, because from what I've seen it doesn't work.
This is where the feminist push is getting ridiculous. Just make a new movie with female lead roles. No need to remake a male lead movie with females IMO.
