Whitney and Madonna are close, but I give Madonna the edge simply for the fact that her legacy isn't highly concentrated on one era/album.

i have nothing is not one of whitney's classics. most people who aren't fans/didn't come of age in that era wouldn't recognize it today i don't think. how will i know and/or i wanna dance with somebody is though.
mariah and celine having none

all i want for christmas is you and my heart will go on are bigger classics than all of madonna's. i'd argue fantasy is a classic as well.
also to the people saying hung up is a classic in europe, i love it but that is categorically false.
