The owner of an Australian shepherd was arrested Tuesday night and accused of throwing the animal into oncoming traffic. The dog was hit twice by vehicles but survived.
“I wouldn’t have done that to the dog if he was healthy,” the owner, Michael Lee Britton, told a reporter at the Marion County Jail on Wednesday. Britton insists the dog had been pierced by an arrow, even though police found no such wound. Britton was being held on charges of aggravated animal cruelty, assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence.
Brenda Hall, a volunteer at the Humane Society of Marion County, said Yoshi, which officers have re-named Buck, was in stable condition and is being cared for by Ocala police Officer Miguel Gauthier, who is working the investigation and would like to adopt the canine. Hall said the dog has no broken bones, but does have fluids in his abdomen, which suggest he might have internal bleeding.
This happened a few days earlier in Hollywood, Florida too
A woman is facing multiple charges after she urinated and defecated in the back of a police cruiser after being arrested for shoplifting, authorities said.
According to an arrest report, employees at a 7-Eleven convenience store at 4112 S. Ocean Drive in Hollywood called 911 Sunday after they saw Arlene Mena, 28, of Hallandale Beach, stealing three Yuengling beers.
An officer spotted Mena crossing South Ocean Drive and ordered her to stop and sit on the ground.
Police said Mena, who was carrying a small dog, tried to run away but fell down about 10 yards away and threw the dog into oncoming traffic.
