Well after listening a dozen or so times, I've gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed. BBTM was so great and I wasn't necessarily expecting him to top it, but this is a big step down.
There are some great songs (Party Monster, Rockin, Reminder, Six Feet Under, Attention, Die For You), but there are a LOT of mediocre songs (Secrets, True Colors, A Lonely Night, Ordinary Life, Nothing Without You) that just don't have any staying power. They're not BAD, but they don't stand out in any way. Every time they come on I have the urge to skip them. The production is lazy, the lyrics are lazy, and they just feel haphazardly slapped together.
And I deleted All For You (I HATE Future), Stargirl (It's not that good), and Sidewalks (It really sucks that he ruined a Kendrick feature with all that autotune). I'll probably delete Secrets and True Colors soon and keep the remaining 13 songs.
But really, there are only ten good tracks:
1. Starboy
2. Party Monster
3. False Alarm
4. Reminder
5. Rockin
6. Six Feet Under
7. Love To Lay
8. Attention
9. Die For You
10. I Feel It Coming
The rest are either filler or straight up bad.
I'm interested to see how this affects him in the long run, a lot of my friends who also really loved BBTM haven't been receptive to this. And it looks like the response online has been pretty mixed.
Rockin' sounds like a #1 smash though.
