Well there are three ways to get into the company and become a trainee:
1. Auditions. There are announced big ones, like SM Global Audition, and the weekly ones. iirc Yoona from
SNSD and Taemin from SHINee got in SM thanks to weekly auditions, but there isnt many of those tbh.
2. Contests. Some companies hold special contests, winners of which get into the trainee system. If you are a runner up it will certainly help you with your audition.
3. Get noticed. Some agents just go around and ask children to come join their agency. Every company scouts visuals this way imo.
There used to be SM Academy which is closed now??? It was another way to get closer to becoming a trainee in SM. It's a paid musical school of smth like that. EXO were referred as "SM Academy's elite" during their debut
Usually Kpop companies either take in visuals and train them or take already skilled enough children and help them glo up.
