In a sense, yes, based on this person's definition of otherkin. Essentially, it doesn't mean that you want to be an animal, it's just that you have a spiritual connection to one, so it's often used as a coping mechanism for people with dissociative personality disorders.

I don't think it's a gender, but I think it exists. Theoretically you could have male otherkin, female otherkin, non-binary otherkin etc.

I think this argument is popular to gravitate to in a way to underhanded discredit and undermine the existence of non binary or gender queer individuals tbh. Otherkin and Genderqueer/Non-Binary are not analogous sets of identities, as much as people love false binaries and dichotomies, it just isn't that comparable.

But for those who actually identify this way (and not ironically or in a teenage rebellious way) I respect their existence. I can't understand it in a literal sense, though I know some people aren't "literally" believing they have the souls of X animal or creatures, I can't remember what the explanation is... As a scholar, I don't think that (believing that you truly are X animal) is really possible, but like I said... Respect and understanding either way. That's the only really appropriate way to talk about this I think. If you disrespect identities because you don't understand them, you're honestly part of the problem how I see it.

but a lot of species are going extinct and the human species is growing quite rapidly as we know, so i can believe that some peoples consciousness feels like it is that of a lower "social comprehending" species but they still inhabit a human body, if that makes sense?
