Tove Lo is incredibly bland and uninspired actually and Melanie Martinez is arguably THE most derivative act ive seen rise from this mess of an "alt pop" wave yet.
Lorde's album was a breath of fresh air and as much as I think shes overrated I do think Lana was at least aesthetically on point and mature. But all these other girls are just riding the wave that the other 2 propelled and they're getting away with being as empty and generic as any of the major pop girls. But because they're not on top 40 radio or at least not a stadium filling act they're deemed better than. Glory was a pretty sh*tty album but its hands down more exciting than Lady Wood and its minimal rnb/boozy melancholic cliches.

I just prefer their sound because I'm not usually bombarded with it on popular radio. That's not to say I don't enjoy mainstream artists (Rihanna is my fave ) but there is something about knowing that they probably won't flourish on radio that gives them the freedom to play with novel concepts and write raw and emotive lyrics, and that's what I love.
