most of these people don't actually hate dance pop but are annoyed by whiny fans who want their faves to repeat same stuff over and over again, saying how new stuff is bad etc.

First 2. Most pop stans/atrlers have no mind. They follow trends like sheep while consciously denying to themselves and everyone else that they are.

"dance pop" is not one dimensional. Its not one sound. Its varied. What everyone is referring to as "dance pop" in this context is just the rave/ibiza club inspired edm of 2010/11/12. And that trend had its high points and its low points. It would be dated for Rihanna to come out with an Only Girl in 2016, this is fact. But I think its now just as basic in 2016 to come out with some melancholy woozy xanax-fueled minimal rnb/"tropical house" anthem. People need to stop completely jumping on one genre-fad and look at the big picture. That way you can actually differentiate the crap from quality.

I agree with everything that's been said. Although I don't really know how slower songs are deemed "real music", a ballad can be as generic as a in your face bop.

I think most of it really sucks, but I also think the majority of ATRL loves dance-pop more than y'all think. Into You and Dangerous Woman are the proof.

They sound dated af. Lemonade and Anti are great and better than most albums yall stan so you can keep calling them pretentious all you want, lol.

Yeah, no. Bey dabbled with Radio and Sweet Dreams, but the majority of her pop music during IASF was adult contemporary pop/pop rock (a lot of that was bland and dry af, too, but yeah -- it wasn't dance either) and with 4, she returned to the most straight up R&B sounds she'd delivered since DiL in the middle of the peak of the dance pop domination. This doesn't apply to her at all.

It's dated. It was dated for me even when it was smashing. Plus it's mostly shallow.

I dislike EDM because every song this decade has been generic dance-pop song

with that being sad, the examples in the OP are actually good EDM tracks. It the basic songs MTV plays from people who don't even show their faces and make this tumblr-like music videos and they song gets forgotten after a year when their basic ass production gets dated so soon.

that shouldn't take away from actual good and classic EDM songs, it's just there are lack of other genres because everybody hops on a trend to get a quick club hit. Thankfully we are slowly getting more experimental music nowdays

True but theres a difference between an individuals taste naturally evolving as opposed to not so coincidentally following whatever the current musical fad is.

just how emo alt. rock was HOT in 2004/2005 and then it became wack in 2007/2008 before EDM era started to dominate

eventually it will make a comeback, also without EDM, Adele and Lana Del Rey wouldn't have such big album success without their completely different music from the hot mainstream ones
