It's like when PETA doses themselves in fake blood and pose naked on the street cause one store in NYC ends up carrying fur coats yet they're nowhere to be seen on huge issues involving our planet with climate change.
Priorities, sisters.
For people who hate how "SJWs get sensitive over everything small," the irony that some people legitimately get mad over astrology is... so sad.

How fragile does someone have to be to get triggered by fortune cookies?
I wouldn't be shocked if some users in here also yell at small children for blowing on dandelion while at recess or their birthday candle because they think it means their wish comes true.
This is another disconnect I feel like in the Atheist community. There's a smugness. Astrology, fortune cookies, folklore, psychics, etc. are all entertainment. They're basically consumed for the purpose of entertainment. To get mad or look down at people for liking it for fun is so.. I don't know, oddly jaded. Unclench. Breathe. Live a little. It's no different than getting mad at people cause, as parents, they tell their kids Santa is real or there's a tooth fairy. Myths/folklore/the fantastical is used to be entertainment. If it's not hurting anyone (religious extremism to justify violence), to want to rain on people's parades is so.. boring. Like get a hobby, let people live.
You can find astrology not entertaining, but to actually get mad? To get ANNOYED? cause people find it entertaining? Sis...., come on. Atheists & Agnostics will never get anywhere with their movements if they're seen as such miserable & cynical people.

I am now 100% convinced that communion is trolling. There is no way his online character is real. I bet my weave on it

Not sure how people just skip over passages in their 'holy and perfect book' that indicate that they are worth less or ask for their murder. I mean the quran tells me every second line that I deserve eternal suffering in hell for not believing. Part of me wishes these people had more self-respect but I see how that's a simplistic view.

"4 people asked when we were tenting, 2 people asked me if we were moving and one person asked if we were Atheists"

Classic show. Can't wait to watch the Netflix season.

Sis, you were having a fit over astrology.
I understand if you've just 'gotten into' Atheism and still battling with the angst of rejecting the fundamentals of religion & feel super cool and smarter now that you 'see through the fog', but not every moment of your life & facet of your personality has to be dedicated to science & Atheism.
Do you demand there not be birthday candles on your cake too?
Do you refuse to put up decorations on Christmas or give out candy on Halloween?
Or get just as mad over astrology over these things?
Relax. Some things are literally just meant to be fun. You don't gotta fight astrology and other things society understands to be myths and fiction purely for entertainment. You don't have to wake up every day prepared to be The Heroic Atheist.

I'm not sure if anyone has a say on it. Catholics believe that only men should be priests because Jesus chose only men as his apostles. It's like one of many things they believe as granted. I say not to meddle with a church's private affairs, not that I care much anyway.

I feel like religion lowkey inspires Stockholm syndrome. Like I watched this documentary about a woman, 18 she was kidnapped and kept as a slave by a man who brainwashed her into thinking a powerful all seeing entity was watching her and demanded her obedience and so even when left alone she didn't run away. Now imagine when such things are pumped into your head ever since you were a child. I'm sure if you asked a nun whether men should be in charge of women they'd give an answer like "Men shouldn't control women, they should lead them with grace". I got this sort of answer before from one of my classmates.

I've been an atheist ever since the 8th grade. You of all people should not be telling anybody else to chill. It's a ******** pseudo science that people actually use to run their life, base their relationships on. I had to spend almost 2 hours listening to my friends argue over their horoscopes before going to the bar and they had a big fight about it and it ruined most of the evening. I can rant about whatever the **** I want, just like you rant about everything you want. Hop off my dick now and don't try to analyze me when you're the one in need of a therapist with your persecution and martyr complex. Good ****ing bye

I agree but can you imagine the pressure it is to be religious. The thought of some sky god being responsible for your entire life. If you make mistakes or even question things, it can increase your chance of eternal suffering. It's just so twisted imo.
I believe most people just use religion as a scapegoat and title for their convenience. Well form my experiences in life

Wait people are serious about this . I thought it was just a fascinating concept to be familiar with, that you just use as a joke in discussions. Then of course there are some similarities and exaggerations to the signs. Not like a serious/factual report on someone

Sis, I spent the last two pages arguing with Latch about whether or not it was an actual science. People do take it seriously. As a form of mindless entertainment ofc it's ok.

So your priorities as an Atheist to 'combat the evils of superstition' is destroying astrology and what else? Fortune cookies?
Odd how you let your friends dictate your entire view of astrology. Sounds like you just have god awful friends. Would you be okay with your friends thinking all Atheists are negative and have anger issues with how you say you stormed off because you refused to let them enjoy their conversation?
Wouldn't this anger be better placed elsewhere? To more serious issues? Isn't it like how many think SJWs are being silly by getting angry over cultural appropriation? So SJWs can't tackle multiple issues but you can?

I find this very interesting especially when I've heard Richard Dawkins describe the consistent threat of hell as a form of "child abuse". Now you can argue about the terminology but we can see the real effect it has on people when children from religious families describe how they developed extremely negative relationships with sex for example.
It is definitely twisted to woship a being which creates you with all the flaws it objects to and then expects gratitude for giving you the opportunity to not suffer eternally for the flaws it created you with.

I don't think people here had a problem with the portion of society of society that acknowledges astrology as fiction and has fun with it (like me, I spent 10 extra minutes on TV this morning to find out the prediction for my sign ) as much as the ones who genuinely believe that planets and stars may influence human activity (a conversation I still can't believe we had a couple of pages ago) or that anybody can somehow predict the unknown based on what irrelevantly happens in outer space.
Oh come on, athiests are fun! We're the ones that have sex, do drugs, drink, don't deny our sexuality, wear revealing clothing when it's hot, etc. all without the fear of going to hell.

What the **** is wrong with you? I mean it, there is something wrong with you. There are no "priorities as an atheist", there are no dogmas, there are no agendas. I'm an atheist because I lack a belief in a god, that is all anybody ever needs to be an atheist and if I wanna discuss how Astrology is ********, I will discuss how astrology is ******** and I don't ****ing care what your messed up brain cooked up about how atheists should behave because again IT"S NOT A POLITICAL GROUP. There are no requirements, no list of goals, just a lack of a belief.

I spend countless posts first proving to Latch how Astrology is not an actual science and then more with FBF (who I am friends with) explaining all the reasons why Astrology is inaccurate and is different from the effect of solar rays and you sit here telling me people only use it for entertainment? If they did then those two would say, yea it's silly but fun and that would be the end of it. But no, how could you ****ing read the posts, I challenge your views in other threads so it's much better to just make me out to be some kind of a selfish monster. You can shove your ****ing identity politics up where the moon in retrograde don't shine, it wont dissuade me by a bit.

It's just weird to such double standards / hypocrisy, you know? To see the same group of people who preach and attack "SJWs" for "focusing on irrelevant **** like cultural appropriation and imaginary genders" and say how we need to focus on "real oppression" then go and get mad over astrology.
But do you, hunty! Live and let live!
If you ever want your sign read though, I'm here.

YASSSS. What's your sign?
I don't really even bother with the forecast/predictions. I just like the little memes that are meant to "describe" you. I'm /such/ an Aries even though I know that like... everyone born between these certain dates and defined as an "Aries" aren't actually ~magically~ or scientifically all alike. It's just super cute when sometimes they really describe you and you get a little hyped.

I'm trying to find a topic that won't cause political tension. [nearly impossible]
How about the most ridiculous things that are listed as 'sins' in the Abrahamic religions?
I'll start: did you know pulling out is a sin in the bible?

Then have this same being be upset with you for asking questions, you will never get the answer too?? That's why athiesm is the much better choice imo, it's better to have questions you can't answer that we can explore and figure out as time goes by. Rather than have questions we will never get the answer to.
That limitation in freedom of thought has set us back on a global scale so many times.
What's most irritating is this notion that athiests are irrational and not to be trusted. Yet most wars/bloodshed are created because of relgion
