They aren't very original anymore, most horror movies nowadays are just rehashes or complete remakes of the past. The rare original ones don't really make it in the mainstream.
Because slasher films just aren't good anymore, they're just plain bad, unoriginal, boring, try hard, etc. The closest I can think of are the Wrong Turn brothers (mainly 3 fingers) but even then they aren't nearly as iconic or known and there's almost a new one in every movie. Well actually only the 1st movie is good (the 2nd one is cute).

They're still better than those god awful unoriginal generic supernatural films like Annabelle, The Conjuring or even Ouija: Origin of Evil
