California does not need the US, but the US need California
California GDP is 2.44 trillion and is almost as big as the UK GDP and bigger than France, both France and the Uk has nearly twice the population of California. As a country California would have the six highest GDP in the world. California has one of the biggest economy in the world. The US received the highest federal taxes from California. California has thriving entertainment industry, thriving tourism sector, thriving in the science, business, wine, agriculture and many more. The only thing the need from the US is water from Colorado, a blue state that benefit to much from California to stop Californian from getting their water. So California can secede from the US anytime it wants to.
Here for the coastal elites to secede and leave the inland working class to deal with their "economic anxiety"/white supremacy on their own while they're dying of hunger, poverty and unemployment.
As if the US government wouldn’t completely cut off Colorado’s water supply to California and let yall rot..
Cali isnt going anywhere.. we need ha more than anyone else
California would need the US. California would lose a lot of its companies when it will have to begin building a military, start creating diplomatic ties, building a federal government and everything else.
They would also lack water and other goods. They wouldn't have the funds immediately when they have to deal with any natural disasters, a large incoming population from Mexico. Not access to people with tech knowledge in California means they'll have to import a lot of people.
Silicon Valley would lose a lot of its easy funding from investors since there's a huge amount of uncertainties.
Becoming a country is not easy. That GDP is based on it as a state not a country. There's a lot stuff a country has to do and it's not cheap.
yeah, but when the economy gets bad in california, it gets really bad. it's nearly impossible for california's legislature to raise taxes when it needs to.
California is more populated than lots of functioning developed countries--and wealthier. It could work but the transition would be hard. It is not happening anytime soon but I can see some form of referendum coming to life if Trump gets re-elected.
