Don't let your bosses 'abuse' you - if you can't or won't work more hours, then don't.

TEA. If you legit have plans, go. Don't miss your friend's birthday because your co-worker failed to come in. Unless you want money/more hours, then that's okay. If they ask you to stay 30 minutes, try and stay. If you really can't be bothered, go home. You gave them your time. As soon as your shift finishes in general -- go. Do not give them any free time because they will not remind you that your shift is finished.
You are human, a retail job is not your life. Don't let them guilt you just because they want to be frugal and refuse to hire more staff.
Everyone messes up at one point -- that's okay. We all mistakes. Try to separate your personal life with your work life. Don't go home thinking of that one customer that yelled at you. It's just not worth it.
Do not trust anyone at work. Your co-workers will snitch on you and people lie to step on you to bring themselves higher in the hierachy. Remember, if any of your co-workers try to boss you around, remember y'all are getting paid the same. They don't have that right.
If a customer is getting rude, remove your name badge so they can't report you

.
Just smile and stay calm. There's pros to both busy and quiet periods. Such as when it's quiet, you can relax. When it's busy, you can keep busy and time will go by. Don't stare at the clock. Go long periods without looking at the time and then look. It'll be a nice surprise. Smile, always talk polite. They (your managers/customers) love a friendly face.
If you have nothing to do, never just stand there. Your manager/team-member or the usual bossy team-worker will tell you to do something, which is probably what nobody wants to do.
Calculate your hours + pay cheque. Being underpaid in retail is common.
Try and get along with your co-workers. I've had an argument with two different people and it was just awful. But don't force friendships. You won't get along with everyone.
Good luck, girl. Yes retail is known to suck and be hard-work but it has taught me so much.
