Even if they are wrong, always make out as if you're trying to help them as best possible and if you don't know the answer to a question they have, don't just guess it. Let them know you aren't sure and ask someone else. I noticed an "In all honesty, I have no idea but bare with me and I'll find out for you" is better than guessing and being off. That can make people irritated.
Customers can be tricky but as long as you show you're trying your best to give them a hand. it's all good.

Good luck! Lemme know how you get on.
Thank you so much. I have a weird feeling that tomorrow will probably be an induction so I will just be watching health and safety videos or something :/
Customer is always right. The cash register is the most fun thing to do and it makes the time fly. Try to find a job serving instead – a lot more money and a lot less boring.
You're going to want to impress higher ups in the first few weeks and that's fine but if they see that you can do a lot and get things done in a timely fashion, they'll overwork you. So try to tone down a bit after your first couple of weeks and do the bare minimum.
Maybe like 1 in every 50 customers is rude unless it's like Black Friday or Christmas Eve. If they look annoyed, tell them that you're new and you'll find someone to help them and that usually settles everything.
If you're working with clothes, it's going to test your patience. Everything you neatly fold and hang will repeatedly fall or get messed up. The job itself isn't hard. It's just annoying. You'll get used to it and everything will be fine.
While it's recommended to keep them happy, the customer ISN'T always right. There will be times where they'll try to play you and they'll tell you to get your manager to scare you. Get the manager... especially if you KNOW you're right.
If you work somewhere where you get to do back-up cashiering, it will be scary to be around it at first but you'll get used to it. and like someone said, time flies so quick when you're on register.
I've worked in retail and I really liked it sooo ignore those guys. Maybe you like it maybe you wont. Either way, if you are scared of mean customers then it's probably not the right field of work for you... hopefully you will overcome that fear soon enough because it's really important that you don't let angry customers put you off. Kill em with kindness, if you are ever unsure about anything just call your manager and ask for a hand.
As someone said, working on the cash register is the best part imo. Lots of customer interaction and it really gives you your chance to shine to the managers, so take in all that you can.
I've worked in retail for a year now and its really not that bad. Ive only had like two maybe three bad customers and a 90 something year old that offered to take me to Europe with him for free
You'll do fine and like someone else said, dont guess while answering someones question. I work the cashier so IDK how things go there.
It's not all bad or bad at all... plenty of coworkers to get along with. You meet a ton of new people everyday to expand your network, have patience and drink a lot of alcohol once the shift is done
