The killing of two gay men who were buried alive last year was a hate crime, the mayor of Paris suggested in a recent blog entry.
Bertrand Delanoe, who has been the mayor of Paris for the last nine years, linked the killings of Luc Amblard, 56, and his life partner, Guy Bordenave, 39, with anti-gay violence, holding up the killings against other incidents of anti-gay violence in an essay posted at his blog. Titled "Difference and Indifference," the essay listed the couple’s death as an example of anti-gay violence, although police have not determined the motive behind the killings.
"We see what France has come to," Delanoe wrote. "One might wonder if we haven’t entered into a sad period of silent regression. Some weeks ago, a group of young homosexuals were beaten, in the middle of the street, in the heart of the Marais in Paris. Just a few days ago, in the square of Notre-Dame, a couple of young men were harassed because they dared to embrace. And in this morning’s newspaper was a report of an incredibly barbaric crime committed a year ago in the Nièvre: two gays bound, gagged, and buried alive..."
French web site Le JDC.fr noted that the mayor’s association of the two men who were buried alive with the anti-gay incidents was not supported by police reports or by the prosecutor in the case, who said that while the possibility of a hate crime was considered at first, testimony offered by the two suspects who were arrested in the case contained no reference to anti-gay animus. The prosecutor, Eric Mathais, suggested two possibilities during a press conference. "Either the incident was [motivated by] the two men looking to commit a robbery, or there may be some other reason, [possibly] connected with the fact that the sister of one of the victims was in a relationship with one of the assailants, and that [the gay couple] were against this relationship."
An April 23 article posted at Gay News Watch.com said that the men’s bodies had been discovered three months after they disappeared on March 7, 2009. The men had vanished from the village of Cher; their bodies were found the following June in La Charite-sur-Loire, in a five-foot-deep hole. Autopsies showed that the men had asphyxiated after being buried alive.
The suspects have been charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment resulting in death, the article said.

Wow, this is unbelievable, every Human have the right to live the way he/she wants to, straight, gay, bi, it dosen't matter, everyboy has the same right. It's a shame how some people think.
France is getting more and more bad news every day, I really start to dislike that place.

France is a secular state, the ban has been imposed on other religious symbols too. I think it's a good thing, and I support that decision. Sometimes religious freedom can cause unnecessary conflict and division.

You could say that about a lot of places. French people are ignorant and rude for the most part, but that's just ingrained in their psyche because of what has happened throughout their history, and because of their culture. I've been to France on numerous occasions and I love it, but I am part French so I may be slightly biased

The majority of people, Muslims included, support it. It's impossible to please everyone and come to a decision that everyone will agree with unanimously, so of course some people will be irritated by said decision.

France banned Veils? When's that?
Aren't the Muslims very angry because of this decision?
