So I'm going to this city I've never been to before next week (Seattle) and all my friends and family are freaking out. Should I be worried? Was originally going with my friends but they backed out and I have the whole week blocked off from work anyway and decided to book a ticket still.

Am I doomed? Will I have fun? Will I regret this? Anyone done this before? Need some perspective on this, please and thanks

I've traveled alone to big cities before, it's really great because you can go wherever you want to and spend as many time as you want to there. I'm into museums and stuff like that so it was quite convenient for me.

idk about clubs and bars though, if you're into that I think going w/friends would be more comfortable

Do you have anything in particular you plan to do there?

I've travelled alone to Minneapolis, Chicago, and Detroit (for concerts) numerous times and I was always fine. Just stick to safe areas and use common sense. I love the feeling of independence and aloneness of being in a city with just myself.

Yeah, not really planning to hit up the clubs/bars while there, but I definitely feel like it'd be pretty fun to explore some place new on my own. I'll probably check out the popular tourist spots and I'm bringing my camera along because the Pacific Northwest is beautiful. Yeah idk why I'm so worried it won't be fun.

Just go with an open mind and treat it as an adventure and see what happens. It can get a little lonely but I felt a great sense of achievement travelling on my own and being independent.

I agree. Managing to use the public transportation in an unknown city feels so rewarding.

I've traveled to Portland and Seattle (from Los Angeles) plenty of times. Just be aware, make sure you have money and have a good time. You don't need people to have fun

I've done it before, it's such an amazing feeling being in a new place alone. Nobody knows you, you're a brand new person.

Honestly that experience alone made me realize how happy I am alone

I've considered doing it before but I haven't yet. I was just wondering how easy it is to get around cities alone. For people that have done it, do you usually walk, take taxis, public transit, rent a car?

I prefer to travel alone, going to a big city by yourself and immersing yourself in all it has to offer on your own interest and time is so enlightening.. of course its nice to have company, but now you’ll have the freedom to do whatever you want during your stay.. and theres always strangers out there waiting to meet you.. be careful, be smart, walk like you know where youre going, be open to all the new things around you.

Use common sense and enjoy yourself.

Just plan ahead and make sure your day is crowded with activities. I entered a mini depression around June so I took a 4 day vacay all by myself in Napa Valley and it was one of my best trips. You get to meet the locals more that way

I agree about common sense, travel alone is a great experience and you can make also new friends, just be safe and avoid strange areas, keep staying in central-safe areas and inform yourself before you go which are the main attractions to visit, museums, shops, bars, restaurants, ecc.
And clearly stay always in touch with somebody, everything will be fine.
