It seems like Eastern and Souteastern Asian countries are feminine friendly. Korea has male pop stars with "feminine" style for the West.
Indonesia and Phillipines export the best boy choreography to pop girls
Why is their fem stigma in the West?
Their culture is different and they don't have the same standards for masculinity and femeninity as the west. In fact homosexual relations were commonplace in certain Asian countries like Japan during the middle ages and basically the period before westernization. They are just so much better at everything Except pop music
From what I heard, homosexuality is seldom discussed or spoken about in South Korea so as long as you aren't making out with another guy, it's ok to be more traditionally feminine?
They are trends. You see it in the u.s/europe too. In the 90s boyband acts were more 'masculine' looking (Nsync, bsbs, etc) while now they are all mostly twinks (bieber, one direction, etc)
Ironic cuz one of my friends (who studies in Taiwan right now) JUST told me he talked to Taiwanese gays and they said that the discrimination one gets for being gay/ feminine is horrible...
in korea. it's two reason.
idol culture and no gay recognizion
there's huge beauty standard and pressure in idol culture and it affect to avg guys in some way.
you don't see guys with make up like idol tho. but young guys more care about fashion or hair, skincare.
but acting feminine? no.
also gp don't see, recognize gays here.
If there's feminine gays, gp see them as just funny, weirdo comical straight guy.
people just have no idea of gay being your friend or family and they're around.
it was probably same in us or eu back in 50's.
so as long as you don't say you're gay, people will treat you as funny one.
In East Asia femininity in men is not necessarily associated with being gay, so you can be fem as hell and people will still assume you're straight (not as a foreigner, though). Its because being gay is so irrelevant and nonexistent in the culture
