SO... after a few spins...
It's interesting because it's not just like the album is a throwback. Its sound is SO rooted in early 90s production values that its reception could go either way. Some people might praise how well it emulates that style, and some people are probably going to take him to task for "failing to put a modern spin on it" or something.
I personally really like the album. Give me something 90s and I'll eat it up. I think he did a great job at pulling off the right mood and I love the breezy, laid-back vibe of the album. Top 40 sounds so urgent and unhappy these days, so I'd love to see some of these songs move up the charts and calm things down a bit.
