And then I fire up the grill.

Yes, if there is one thing that everyone should learn from the recent election is that shaming people into doing what you want is not effective and can have the opposite effect.
As far as logical reason goes there are numerous studies that indicate plant-based diets are extremely healthy especially for people with heart problems or diabetes.
But I must admit, even as a vegetarian, if you eat a balanced diet of whole foods, avoid processed food and eat in the right quantities your diet probably won't have that great of an effect on your life expectancy whether it includes meat, eggs and dairy or not. At least I think so.
It is true though that the meat industry makes up a significant part of Co2 emissions.
What really moved me where ethical reasons. Here are some questions/thoughts I had for myself while transitioning into a vegetarian.
Do I think human life is worth more than the life of other animals?
What is the difference between eating cats and dogs and eating cows and pig?
Why do I find it gross that Asians eat dogs?
If I can't watch documentaries about slaughter factories why do I support it?
If I had to slaughter the animals myself would I still eat meat?
Does meat taste good enough to make up for the industry it is built on?
Maybe some of them you will find them helpful to figure out if being vegetarian is for you.
