The anxiety I get leading up to short 5 min speech is awful & then standing infront of a ton of people who are dead silent & staring straight at you is even worse
I guess for some people it gets better as you go along & you do realize that more than half the class is usually on the same boat as you are but I've hard a hard time with it tbh. Luckily i haven't had any major screw ups yet though
Yeah I chose to take it to conquer my fear of public speaking. I had anxiety every time it was my turn to do a speech though but I always felt better when someone really sucked because it meant I could do better than them . Like we each had to present like 5 times total for the semester including one group speech. Each ranged from 5-15 minutes. My last one had to be 15 minutes persuasive speech. Like you get more comfortable with it eventually but you would be surprised how afraid people are of talking. 2 girls starting crying because of how nervous they were, people stutter and fidget a lot.. like its literally a death sentence to some people
The worst was she had people raise their hands and comment about how good or bad you are and hand out evaluations criticizing your performance. What kinda organized bullying. Hopefully you dont have that

It's the first class I signed up for, and I didn't even have to take it. I also chose it as a way to "conquer my fears," it helped a lot in my public speaking after.
