So, I'm in university and I have a new set of friends and we always watch films. I'm always the only one who insists for subtitles (I struggle to watch things without them.. or it's just not great tbh) and they all groan
I've been asked a number of questions like why do I need them if I understand English. But I like to read AND listen. Plus I just glance at the sentence the subtitles show --I don't read it word by word and take it all in. I'm a fast reader. Anyways, do you use them

the first time I've ever watched a show in another language with subs was when I was like 9 so from a very young age I learned how to focus on the content and on the subtitles. I've grown accustomed to using subtitles instead of shows dubbed into another language

For a while I used them for everything. But I always ended up paying more attention to them than actually watching the show/movie, so I don't use them anymore.

I'm not even going to lie. When **** videos have subtitles, I like it. But that's mainly because (straight) **** caters for straight men and I don't want to hear the woman moan so I mute ****. But yeah subtitles >

When I was watching 100 Days of Sodom, yes.

But in general, it really depends on the context of the movie. Sometimes, when I feel that the movie is too deep or is too scientifically like the Mars or Interstellar movie and you have to really grasp the dialogue and the script to understand the movie entirely, yes I have to turn it on.

I put them on no matter what language they're speaking. It's kind of habit of mine since I was a teenager.. but it's a must for me.

Yes. I love watching foreign movies so I'm kinda used on reading subtitles. I easily got bored when there's no subtitles even on English movies. I also used subtitles when watching tv series because it helps me understand the conversation more and the spelling of every character's name, especially game of thrones where I don't want to miss every single detail.
