7.5 earthquake + tsunami in NZ; 2 dead
Quote:
U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude-7.4 earthquake has struck near Christchurch, New Zealand.
It was widely felt in both the South and North Islands, as far north as Auckland, causing damage and knocking out power.
- 111 emergency calls are down. In case of emergency, contact your local police station
A 2011 earthquake in the city of Christchurch destroyed much of the downtown and killed 185 people.
Civil Defence now warns a tsunami is possible. From Civil Defence: People near the coast in the South Island should move to high ground or inland.

The tsunami warning has been extended to the East Coast of all New Zealand (not just the South Island)
Stay away from the coast, New Zealand. 2 metre tsunami in Kaikoura to hit other parts of the SI soon.
The first wave may not be the largest. Tsunami activity will continue for several hours.
Initial quake has been reviewed again. It is now an M7.5,15 km deep and 15 km north-east of Culverden.

Poor Christchurch... they're never going to get a break from them
Thoughts to everyone down there and hope it's not a lethal one.

That's the risk you run when living on islands. So sad, I really hope everyone is alright.

You sound disappointed.
Naww but seriously, thanks. Have just re-fled to the doorway, these aftershocks have me swaying. I feel sea-sick kinda, plus it's like 1.25am Monday morning.
Stitches.
