I do think the polls would have changed dramatically if Sanders was actually in the race. He would have been portrayed as an evil-commie who would cut the military and bankrupt the country.
That said, he didn't have the baggage Clinton did and maybe the people who felt they couldn't have voted for Clinton or Trump would have turned up to the polls, as well as more millennials. And clearly a lot of America, both on the right and left do want change. Who knows.
