The day after emancipation, newly freed blacks were arrested en masse so that their labor could continue to be exploited by the government for free.

When they say they want to "Make America Great Again", they mean that they want to go back to the time of Reganomics, when corporate welfare and tax breaks for the wealthy were established, starting a 25 year long avalanche that led to the recession of 2008. When drugs and guns were just a symptom prevalent in inner city minority neighbourhoods, and when police brutality was overlooked. When anybody suspected of being a communist was put in jail. When minorities "knew their place", and didn't demand equality, political correctness, and couldn't compete for jobs. Or when their neighbourhoods were being burned down by the police and the KKK because they threatened job security. Or when you could openly kill black people and other minorities without repercussion. Or when the confederate flag was flown in the southern states just so that black people always knew their place...that they were, ultimately, second-class citizens, and should be grateful for even that. Or maybe further back, when women and children were property, and when rape and assault weren't crimes. Or when LGBTQ people weren't considered as equals. Or when they were allowed to kill Native Indians for profit. Or when Japanese Americans were stripped of their rights just when they needed them most, and forced into internment camps during WWII for "public safety".
America has always been great if you are a straight, white man. And what they really mean is "Make America White Again".

America was great when they set the base for what we understand as modern liberty.
America was great when it started a revolution which shaped modern democracy today.
America was great when it helped to stop 2 world wars.
America was great when it helped to re-build Germany and protected it from falling under communist dictatorship.
America was great when it elected a president of a group of people who endured horrible mistreatement for centuries, making a huge statement in social advancement.
America was great too many times to mention and still is great for multiple reasons today but if you insist on focusing on all the things that are wrong that is is on you and your bleak outlook won't be changed by me anyway.

Yes, America as a powerful nation has been great, however that is not what is being discussed. It's 2016, and there has been a cultural shift towards a move of tolerance. Forgive those who are a bit worried because a man who built his campaign on hate, promising to make the country again, is the most powerful person in the world.

The 1990s were the the political, economic and cultural peak and dominance of the USA. Those have been slowly eroding since after 2001.

She even explains it in Ride video
Its about the whole "Live fast, die young" attitude back in the days
It has nothing to do with Trump

I mean every country has these deluded "golden days" which are literally just imagined, actually that reminds me when I studied media theory at uni and there's like mental functions behind nostalgia and how they literally just wipe out negative feelings and you can only remember the good.
