Like many here, I'm sad and disgusted by the results, but part of me isn't really that shocked.
There's rampant ignorance and stupidity throughout the rank and file, making them easily manipulated into hatred and fear.
That's what I believe. That's what many here believe. That's what many liberals believe.
The point is, that mentality may have played a part in bringing Trump the White House.
I know it sounds silly, but PC culture is a very important issue for many people, and in a sense one can say that the flagrant rejection of it is a main reason why Trump won. This was a vote against the establishment, but it was also a vote against PC culture. People didn't care for his policies or what he necessarily stood for. Trump symbolizes unrestrained speech. Many flocked to him because they are now represented by what they want without fear of persecution by those who disagree with them.
This divide is mostly prevalent between those with and without college degrees. True, education makes people more liberal by its very nature of dissolving misconceptions and providing context, but it also leads to a certain air of condescension where facts are held as the gold standard while emotion is put to the side. Logos over ethos.
A solution that is frequently presented is to just let people say what they want, and I don't mean individual free speech. I'm referring to perceived free speech, the kind that isn't influenced by external factors and pressures.
What if they weren't as quickly demonized for expressing their views? Rather than suppress their expression, and immediately label them as correct or incorrect, their views can be discussed in proper context to lead to the desired result. Rather than be immediately shunned, they can be slowly incorporated in their own time.
Perhaps people are expecting progress too quickly. There has to be another way. I'm trying to make sense of this situation.
Republicans and Conservatives threw the masks away a long time ago and started becoming more and more aggressively hateful, racist, homophobic, sexist to counteract the left who has gotten more aggressively against hatred, racism, homophobia, etc., so theres no shocker.
they were interviewing people last night and the ones who voted for trump said they voted for him because he tells it like it is and he's not politically correct. in short trump made the racist homophobes bigots of america feel comfortable and let their hair down in public again, they voted for him and now he's the president

Yes this is what inspired this thread.
I saw a lot of talk about "change" and "PC". It's a really important issue to them.
Trump had the right timing by giving sound to Xenophobia which feels like it is at an all-time high.
on the other side you have PC culture
ugh this situation
It's a played out theory considering Trump got less votes than the PC candidates like Romney and even Hillary herself. The problem is the status quo, which people have had enough of.
The only way I can imagine PC culture backlash bit her in the ass, is when her team played the sexist card on Bernie and his supporters. And by the time Trumps leaks came out, people were tired of hearing about sexism. Even women forgave him, that's how over it they were.

Yeah I think that was the driving force.
Sure the most vocal may have been adding on to their reasoning as because he says whatever but the silent majority were so sick of establishment and feeling left out in the corner that drastic change was their desire.
It's more a reaction to a black president and some strides towards racial equality (though really not that much) and marriage equality than PC culture and SJWs.
