She was invited by the CMA awards producer. She presented EOTY because she's won it twice. Had it not been the 50th, she probably would have declined. She was simply respecting the anniversary which she did reference when she spoke.
His words:
"She was and will always be important to country music and its history, and I wanted her to come, so I invited her."
