I don't think so. After Merkel's immigration policy became such a disaster, I should think any politician with a similar policy would face political suicide. Either way, I can't see the migrants crossing the Atlantic in rubber boats

We have a refugee crisis of our own here since many Central Americans are fleeing unsafe countries and they refuse to go anywhere else for asylum

Merkel's immigration policy may have cost her politically, but it was the best possible option for Germany, which has an aging, shrinking population and desperately needs an influx of new labor and workers in its economy. Sometimes the most unpopular decisions are the bravest ones.

Merkel really turned things around for Germany tbh. I'm for Hillary, but I don't think she'll be able to achieve as much as Merkel has.

Despite losing popularity, if Merkel decides to be the next candidate of the (read carefully dear Americans) Christian Conservative Union, she will most likely win.

And some members like this Darren and that Avrildude, are for sure hoping that Hilary turns into an american version of Marine Le Pen.

Germany had more difficult integration to do than most countries. Integrating former GDR and at the same time taking huge amounts of refugees from former Yugoslavia during the early 90's, integrating Germans from former Soviet Union, battle several very difficult economic situations and still, being the powehouse numero uno in Europe.

And we still have a long way to go with other difficult challenges, but we just keep on winning while the rest of Europe is fuming.

Sure, Merkel was not in power during that time, but how she has turned this country round after the failure of Social Democrats and the Green Party, was quite remarkable.

Opposing gay marriage =/= opposing gay rights. The only reason she gave that speech was to defend her vote against a bill that'd stop allowing states to legalize gay marriage. And she actually spoke out against DATD which was very brave considering it's very rare that a first lady criticizes one of her husband's administration's policies. As a SoS, she worked hard to cut foreign aid to anti-gay countries. She enacted laws that gave equal benefits to LGBT individuals who worked at the state department. She facilitated getting new passports as a transgender person.
Foreign countries can't fund campaigns. That's punishable by jail here. Trump is the one who solicited foreign donations and only stopped doing that when he faced threats of a jail sentence.

Wrong. With 6 conservative supreme court justices out of 9 (Ruth would resign under Trump), you can say goodbye to marriage equality, planned parenthood which helps HIV patients, protections of LGBT individuals of discrimination in businesses etc.
That's what they said about Justin Trudeau and he ended up handling the migrant situation brilliantly. Merkel's situation is kinda special.

Dafuq are you talking about her immigration policy isnt even that great. She wants Residency for people who complete their college schooling here. Thats an amazing idea! IT will encourage great minds to stay rather than go to their home countries.
