Why are you forcing this narrative when OP is also directed at these people. People that say gays are going to hell cannot back that up with fact and thus it's, by default, non-discussable (despite the fact that these people usually try it; yes they are fools for trying to pass legislation based on theological beliefs).
However, if a member of a church wished to bring up this discussion with their congregation based on the premise that homosexuality is seen as negative in the bible, they could do so because the basis of the discussion is the same.
