Your random ass cousin Lou that you've never met b4 comes out of nowhere after spending 25 years in jail and asks to borrow money for cocaine. C'mon, you "love" him, remember?
You should always try your best to build a good relationship with your family (mom, dad, brothers, sisters, cousins, uncles, aunts, etc) but sometimes it doesn't entirely work out and that's just reality.

I mean it in the sense of loving them just because you're somewhat related to them,
Sure. The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. Relationships formed by conscious choice > forced / implicit / obligatory relationships.
I love my direct family and also extended family as well but if push comes to shove I'm sticking with my parents and brothers tbh. Cousins and even Aunts and uncles can be very flaky.
I don't really care much for some of my family whom I've never interacted with, to be honest. I think I have distant cousins that I don't even know about.

Who would expect you to love someone you don't know though...?
My extended family members only call when they need something, a favor or some money.
I wish my parents would pay them dust tbh.
I've only seen most of them a handful of times.
Blood is thicker than water...?
