I checked some other machines - a windows desktop and linux desktop and they both wrote more than 1GB in less than 2 hours.
In the both cases there would have been maybe one album and a few singles streamed and most of the time it was just sitting there with the application open.
If Spotify writes 10GB per day for 300 days per year for 5 years, the extra writing to the drive would add up to about 15 TB. This seems really bad, but most decent consumer drives should last beyond 100 TB.

Hopefully they can reduce the number of drive writes. Most albums are about 100 MB for mp3 and 300 MB for FLAC, so no good reason to write that much.
