Maluma is the most followed Latin American male on social media (will surpass Shakira soon) and is probably the hottest Latin American artist right now, which is why so many artists are working with him. Shakira would benefit a lot more from this than he will.

Carlos Vives is not that big outside of Colombia yet "La Bicicleta" was a smash hit everywhere. Obviously because of Shakira. Maluma doesn't have a hit as big since "Borro Casette" and the former was still probably bigger.

First, that's not entirely true. Carlos Vives had decent-sized hits since 2012 without any collaborations and Shakira isn't exactly a go to to get a hit as evidenced by her last album release. Also, "Borro Casette" came out last year and has had longevity. Maluma might be the the flavor of the moment, but he's relevant enough to get the attention of veteran artists who are monopolizing on his popularity.

Speaking of J Balvin, he's doing better than Shakira lately too.

Shakira has ~170M follower on FB/Twitter/Insta. Maluma is a no-name outside of Latin America, and still a newcomer in Latin America. If anything, he'll benefit from Shak's worldwide popularity. He turned to her for a collab because he wants have crossover success like her.

Even if they overlap she still has 104M on FB (her biggest SM platform) alone when Maluma has 18M on Insta (which is his biggest platform). 104M >>>>>vs. 18M .
Last time I checked he didn't have a 7.7B Vevo either, so he's not overtaking her in streaming. She has a video with +1B, 2 with +700M from her last era, another one with 400M in less than 4,5 months.

maluma barely uses FB and twitter (except to link to IG). his only active platform is IG and IG is the most popular social media platform with target markets that actually stream and buy music. getting more followers on a less popular platform that maluma barely uses is not some big accomplishment.

nice try. maluma is currently the 5th most streamed artist on VEVO and has been top 10 for the past year. shakira is not in the top 20 despite having a huge hit with bicicleta and her old hits.

why shouldn't he thank her? it's a good opportunity for him and he was soooo excited and grateful when thalia, ricky martin, wisin, daddy yankee and everyone else who asked him for a collab... it's a huge honor when veterans are asking a more relevant newcomer to help them

Shak has been on hiatus for 2 years but her only release this year has already outcharted & will overtake Maluma's biggest hit in a few weeks on YT. Maluma has released 5 new songs this year, barely makes 1.9B on YT vs. Shakira's 1.4B before her new era. He has 6M monthly listeners on Spotify vs. her 13M.
You need to give your highschool diploma back if you think that:
160M Follower < 40M Follower &
13M monthly listeners < 6M .

you need to follow logic and trends if you think FB is more relevant to target markets than IG is. old people just don't understand i guess... and you really think that maluma wouldn't have bigger followers on FB and twitter if he were active on them? that his IG and streaming #s are a fluke?

btw 6M on spotify is not far from 13M just like 18M on IG is not far from 26M. at the rate, he's going he will overtake her easily and it's a big accomplishment for an artist who made his debut very recently and doesn't even have an international hit. and shakira's new era already started...
