Bryan Singer is in talks to direct Bohemian Rhapsody, the long-in-the-works movie about the seminal British rock band Queen, with Mr. Robot‘s Rami Malek playing frontman Freddie Mercury. The film is coming back together and is on the fast track at 2oth Century Fox and New Regency with original producer Graham King and his GK Films.
Wow... this is really strange and intriguing. I'm a HUGE fan of Rami and I'm certain he'll do amazing at this.
This is very weird casting tho, like Freddie was white as white with a black moustache, and Rami is gorgeous + Egyptian and has a REALLY different look, I'm surprised they went with him

Freddie's parents were of Indian Parsi origin and he was even raised in India. They obviously cast a white(ish) Egyptian to give it some "ethnic" credibility (even though North Africa isn't anywhere close to South Asia).
I think Sacha Baron Cohen would have been better casting in terms of looks.

True, yeah Sacha was a good choice, tho both are little bizarre to me. I guess I just find anyone portraying him a little odd.

Firstly Indian does not = Egyptian. Secondly (I'd embed some if I wasn't so lazy) if you put a photo of Rami and Freddie side by side they look VERY different. Freddie looked incredibly White/British, okay he isn't the palest of pales, but he's clearly white, he's known for the iconic moustache and his teeth etc etc. Rami has an entirely different look.
Just get photos of the two up and you'll see what I mean
