Not being famous in the US doesnt make you local. He might not be global, but he is an international superstar. Same for Kylie Minogue. The funny thing is that if he was #1 in the US and out of the top 30 everywhere else, most ATRLr's would still consider him a "global force".

He's more a European icon

He is big everywhere but US / Canada so no. His success in most of Europe (mainly UK and Germany) and some South American countries is unmatched.

he's big in europe as are Take That- I was shocked at their Progress tour gross. $185m with 35 dates

he isn't relevant anymore- musically speaking- in the uk though. same with kylie minogue. haven't heard anyone mention a thing about either in years.
